Estimates suggest that a quarter of women experience domestic abuse and at least two are killed each week. Family pets are often used to control victims trapping them in abusive relationships. We are proud to announce our Animal Safe Haven, a project to support victims access a refuge while we provide temporary care for their pets. Each pet recieves a full health check, vet treatment if required, and a fosterer to provide a temporary loving home. We are looking for volunteers to register as Animal Safe Haven fosters to provide a loving and caring home for pets.
Help4Wales Foundation have recently been running a week long summer camp for children. Collaborating with RecRock and the Newbridge Memo, we had a busy but highly enjoyable week, running arts and crafts activities and putting on a musical production. The children created their own musical instruments to accompany their performance that their familiy and friends could attend. Overall everyone had a fantatsic experience and we look forward to hosting future camps. A video of the event can be found on our Facebook Page.
Help4Wales Foundation ran a week long competition to encourage the to submit photos of their pets. We recieved a fantatsic response and found it very difficult to select three winners. Pepper (shown right) was our overall winner and is now featured on our promotional materials for our Animal Safe Haven project, which are being distributed across Wales. Jeffery the Hamster and Daisy the Cat were our amazing runners up and have also been featured on our website and social media.
Help4Wales Foundation worked in collaboration with GoConnect to deiliver a two week girls only project based in our headquarters at Welsh ICE. The project was designed to build self-confidence and self-esteem for young women, and exploring other key areas of personal development. During the sessions the participants were able to build new relationships and meet like-minded individuals. Following the success of our course we are now planning future life skills workshops supporting them on their personal and professional development.
